TASK Testimonials - Take 2!

More testimonials from TASKmtl!

As organizers and participants it is so rewarding to see everyone who participates in TASK
coming away from the event with such positive experiences!

Reading all of these great stories, you can really get a sense of the value of creative play and self-expression and their value in helping people to open up, and to challenge themselves in new ways.

TASK: Select a text & read it aloud

My favourite task was when I had to select a text from within the room and read it out loud on a chair in front of everyone.

This was the kind of task I feared the most because I didn't know anyone in the room.
I found a newspaper article that had a very touching story about a woman's changed perception of homeless women.  The article had a great opening line

"I have a confession to make...".

I love reading about people's stories, so although initially I was nervous to read aloud the story pulled me in.
Meanwhile Christina gathered others to listen to me read. I  kept reading until I read the whole article.

When I finished I knew this was going to be a great experience for me in terms of getting out of my comfort zone and enjoying this process.

Testimonial: When TASK pulls people in

For me personally, the most amazing moment was when a woman entered the space
with a puzzled look on her face.

I walked over and welcomed her to the TASK party and I explained the concept to her.
She said, “Oh, I am only dropping in to see what is happening here. I do not wish to participate.”

I told her that she is free to do as she wishes.
Over an hour later I saw her at the entrance sitting on the ground,
totally engaged in building a rose garden.

She left the space nearly two hours later, said thank you and embraced me.

TASK Testimonal!

Saturday was a success that surpassed our expectations.
It was an evening filled with excitement, energy, collaboration, and of course, creation!

The very nature of TASK is that of give and take, inspiration and interpretation.
Participants have the joy of creating while also having the privilege to see tasks they submitted come to life in the hands of others.  It's a beautiful symbiosis.

Today we will feature our first two TASK Testimonials -  one from each side of the TASK coin!

First up, Christina Marie shares about seeing a task that she wrote come to fruition:

The Task: "Build a Kissing Booth".
I originally had one of those high school
carnival day Kiss-for-a-good cause
booths in my mind when I created this
task. The same ones where the folks
would line up for miles if it was "their
gal/their guy" who was working the
booth, with a pile of coins in their hand
to prevent others from taking up their
kisses.

The photo [above] displays exactly the
incredible phenomena of creativity +
simple recycled materials + a few added
art materials + a lotta love and ambition!
Wow!! This gorgeous KISSING BOOTH
went well beyond my expectations and
even inspired further TASKS like
Cynthia's and her husband's romantic
KISS
that was also caught on camera ♥
        Many thanks! - Christina Marie
The Task: ' Create a Stairway to Heaven"

TASK he said.
“We are all going to write a task, put it in the TASK
BOX and then take one out and perform it,” he said.
“Without expectations of failure or success,” he said….

We were released,
to limitless creation,
messy play and
complete freedom.

I was overwhelmed,
where to start, what to write….
After adding a task to the box I pulled out my first,
and only, task for the evening.

It read:
“Create a Stairway to Heaven.”

I spent the next 2.5 hours creating my version of a
stairway to heaven, whatever heaven is.
I was lost in my creation,
an expression of myself.

So...what IS TASK?

Conceptualized by internationally acclaimed artist Oliver Herring, a TASK PARTY is a creative and improvisational event with a clear structure:
a designated space, a variety of materials, and a group of participants!

Write a task for the TASK box, then draw a task from the box to creatively interpret in any way, shape or form!  Once the task is complete the cycle begins again.

Oliver Herring talks about TASK:
